Mission
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee is to make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in need of positive role models,  primarily through professionally screened and supported one-to-one relationships with caring volunteer adults.  The intent of our mentoring service is to transform young people's lives and enrich their families, thus helping to strengthen our communities and society as a whole.

Vision
Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the largest national network of mentoring organizations serving children, families and communities.  BBBSETN has a vision to develop the resources, environment and processes to place a caring adult in the life of every child in need, and to provide ongoing support for each of those relationships.  A part of this vision is sharing as widely as possible the uniquely satisfying and powerful volunteer opportunity represented by being a BBBS mentor.

To achieve our vision we will continue to build on a century-long BBBSA history of commitment to excellence and of valuing all individuals, including client children and families as well as volunteers.  The agency's work should always communicate our respect for individual efforts, abilities and differences.

Programs
Community Based Mentoring offers opportunities for adults to build relationships with children on weekends, in the evenings, during summer days - basically anytime that is convenient for the adult, child, and family.

School Based Mentoring provides volunteers the opportunity to spend one hour a week with their "Little" at the school. Teachers are flexible to fit the volunteer's schedule, confident that the relationship will positively improve the child's educational experience.

We serve children who live in Anderson, Blount, Hawkins, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Scott, Sullivan, and Washington Counties.

History
Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. Big Brothers Big Sisters enrolls youth ages 5 to 15 (School Based Program) and 7 to 15 (Community Based Program) in communities across the country through a network of 429 agencies. Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee is a proud member agency of the national network. We have served the community for more than 30 years and offer services in nine East Tennessee counties: Anderson, Blount, Hawkins, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Scott, Sullivan and Washington. National research has shown that the positive relationships between Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Littles have a direct, measurable and lasting impact on children's lives.
