Profiles of Littles

**All names in the following profiles have been changed. If you are interested in being matched with any of these children please refer to their name and story.

Gender: Male
Age: 9
His Story: Five years ago there was a terrible accident that involved a 4-year-old boy. He played in his carseat, as usual, without a care in the world. Suddenly, a car slammed into the side of his aunt's vehicle, leaving this child fighting for his life. He was rushed to the hospital and the doctors didn’t know if he would even make it through the night. The doctors prepared his mother for the worst saying that if he lived and was able to come out of his coma, he would never walk again. This bouncy adventurous 4-year-old would never be the same. His mother, who was 3 months pregnant at the time, stayed by his bedside for 2 months while he was in the coma. One day, to the great amazement of the doctors, he finally woke up. Mentally, he was an infant and would have to learn everything all over again. With a lot of love and determination his mom helped him to relearn all the things he had forgotten, including how to walk. He now plays hide and seek with the other 3rd graders and plays in the yard with the neighbors. He has been given back the life he once had, but there is still something missing: his father. He has a devoted mother and a playful sister, but his father has not seen him since the wreck. This boy will one day be a man, and he will need someone to help him learn what that means. With no consistent male role model in his life, this boy needs a man to guide him and strengthen him and teach him how fun life can be.

Gender: Female
Age: 12
Her Story: Meet Keisha! Keisha is twelve and likes to go to the mall. She wants a Big Sister because she wants someone to hang out with. She likes to talk on the phone and is always on the go. Her mom wants her to have the chance to get out of the house more and experience life while having fun. Keisha thinks the best part of having a Big Sister will be to have someone she can tell things to. She says she is a good person and wants her Big Sister to be a good person. Keisha is a great girl who would brighten anyone’s day!

Gender: Male
Age: 7
His Story: Deron is a 7 year old African American young man that has been involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program since May, 2004. He has been waiting for a Big Brother for over a year. His mother describes him as a young man who needs to stay active. She writes, “my family is basically all female. My son needs a male role model because he only sees his father a couple of weeks a year.” Deron likes being outside, watching TV, and music. Deron’s mother is hoping a Big Brother can have fun with him, be active, and teach him positive male behaviors.

Gender: Male
Age: 10
His Story:
Lamar is a ten-year-old boy who loves to play football and play video games. He lives with his mom and sister. His sister is already matched with a Big Sister. Lamar has been on our waiting list since 2003 and is very anxious to have a Big Brother to spend time with. Lamar’s mother says that he needs a positive male in his life because he is the only male in the house. She wants him to have someone who will teach him manners and how to be a man. Lamar wants to finish school, go to college and play football.
